Ember & Salt

Cooking over live fire, in a room built for long dinners. Open Tuesday to Sunday, from 5 PM.

Our story

One fire. A long table.

We started with a wood-fired grill and a simple idea: food tastes better when it is shared. Almost everything on our menu touches the fire, and most of it comes from farms within a morning's drive.

How this website turns a visitor into a customer

This is what I set up behind the design. Ember & Salt's hook is a table request or private-dining inquiry. Fill in the form on the site above, and your entry appears in the owner's view below.

  1. 1. Capture

Give visitors a real reason to leave their details, then keep the form short.

  2. 2. Collect

Every request lands in one place, with what they want and where they came from.

  3. 3. Reply instantly

An automatic email goes out straight away, and the business gets an alert.

  4. 4. Follow up

Timed emails keep the conversation going, and stop when someone replies or unsubscribes.

  5. 5. Measure

See which ads and pages bring real customers, so the budget goes to what works.

Tools that make it real

A CRM or spreadsheet for the inbox, an email tool for the follow-ups, and analytics for the sources. I choose these to suit the client's budget and connect them when the site is built.

Only email people who asked to hear from you. Buying lists or scraping addresses damages deliverability and can break the law. Every marketing email needs a working unsubscribe and a real business address.

The thinking

Restaurant visitors want three things: the menu, the hours and a table. This concept gives those priority, with film and photography setting the atmosphere.

Built with

Next.js, TypeScript, CSS

  1. The menu is real text

It can be read on any phone, searched, and read by screen readers. A scanned PDF can do none of that well.

  2. Dietary filters

Guests can narrow the menu in one tap, which is especially helpful when booking for a group.

  3. Reservation stays in view

Party size, date and time sit next to the menu, so the decision to book happens at the right moment.
